Camping the way it used to be. Memories of canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, campfires and new best friends are part of many of our own childhoods. For 58 years we have been helping the children of Alexandria make their own lasting memories.
We believe that every child deserves some time away from the routines of day to day life. Our campers come to camp to have fun, make friends, be a part of a group and feel liked, respected, and appreciated.
In 1947, Officers of the Alexandria Police Department purchased 95 Acres of land in Kilmarnock, Virginia and created a camp for children of Alexandria. Since that 1st camp with six boys, who came to camp in a taxi, we have hosted more than 17,000 of Alexandria's children. Almost 60 years later, the camp is still owned and operated by Sworn members of the Alexandria Police Department.
In 2005, we partnered with the Peninsula region YMCA to operate our camp. The YMCA's Camp Kekoka will be a week long camp for 4 sessions. Parents, you can rest assured that your child(ren) are in safe and capable hands.
All camp staff is trained in CPR and First Aid and is screened against criminal and child protective service records. And with a counselor to camper ratio of 1:5, we will always have our eyes on your child. Our staff can't wait to spend quality time exploring nature, teaching archery, coaching hoops, or cheering your child on! We spare no cost to make sure our staff exceeds your every expectation.
Due to licensing requirements, registration is not complete until we receive the following:
